The Federalist also wanted to have a government by the elite and to have weaker state governments. The Anti-Federalist disagreed with that and wanted a government that was ruled by the common man and wanted the state governments to have more power. Finally the Federalist expected a few violations of individual liberties, which the Anti-Federalist wanted to strengthen the protection for individual liberties of the people. This is why the Federalist were for the New Constitution and why the Anti-Federalist were against it. It supported the strong national governmen t and the indirect election of officials with few protected liberties of the people, which the Anti-Federalist totally disagreed with it and were against the Constitution.
